Texas Citrus Mite, Eutetranychus banksi (McGregor),
Texas citrus mite was identified as a problem in Kern County citrus during 2003. A number of growers reported significant defoliation of their trees during the late fall. It is likely that this mite has been in that region for several years and the prolonged late season heat escalated the problem. A number of miticide trials are in progress and Dave Haviland, the Kern Entomology Farm Advisor, is studying the problem. See his web page for more information.
