Citrus Fruit Scarring
There are many ways that citrus fruit rind can become scarred from the time it first forms on the tree until the time of harvest. This brochure describes the primary biological (insect, mite, snail), mechanical (equipment, hail, wind rubbing), and chemical (phytotoxicity) types of damage that can occur. It will help pest control advisors, citrus growers, and packinghouse personnel determine the causal agent so that they can take steps to reduce injury to future crops. Orchards should be monitored all season long and as soon as damage is observed a search for the cause should be initiated. It is much harder to determine the cause of fruit damage towards the end of the season when the insects and other causal agents are no longer present.
